| HEALTH |
 |
One of the first
steps in
creating and
improving health
is to understand
the health
environment of
the area. Health
indicators like
life expectancy
indicate the
health
environment.
Infant, child
and maternal
mortality rates;
incidence and
cause of
disease;
incidence of
malnutrition,
environmental
changes and
their effects on
health; |
|
belief, customs and
indigenous practices that have health
implications; availability of health services
and their proximity, efficiency and
effectiveness; demand of these services and
community image of these services; availability
of safe drinking water; health needs of the
area; and resources availability and purchasing
power of the people. It is a common knowledge
that investment in one sector will give a
strategic advantage to influencing to other
variable. For example, improvements in mother’s
health may have multiplier effects as there is
inadequate availability of fund to work in all
sectors related to health, ICDA could organize
one mega health camp covering 10 Gram Panchayats
under Dhamnager Block of Bhadrak Dist. The
health camp camp was intended to cover all
mothers, women and children. We know for certain
that the women belonging to rural areas are not
vocal or frank to speak of their health problems
to any one and in turn suffer mutely. About 3000
patients turned up for health check up. Free
medicines distributed at the camp.
